Decade of Decisions: How video surveillance in the cloud evolved from pure security to an AI-powered platform

Dean Drako
President CEO at Eagle Eye Networks

Dean Drako is the inventor and entrepreneur behind cloud video surveillance provider Eagle Eye Networks, Barracuda Networks and Drako Motors. Drako will share the strategic decisions and innovations that propelled Eagle Eye Networks from a physical security-focused solution to an AI-powered platform. There are hundreds of millions of security cameras worldwide constantly recording data. While only a very small percentage of that video data is of interest, AI can effectively analyze and deliver the 1% of video that’s relevant. The implications for physical security are dramatic: AI can alert business owners to take action when, for example, a person enters a restricted area, a large crowd is forming, or a child is nearing a train track. However, video data can be used for much more than physical security. A groundbreaking source of business intelligence, video data provides unique business performance metrics, complete with visual context. Drako will discuss how AI is revolutionizing video surveillance, the business world, and answer questions about how developers are leveraging Eagle Eye’s open RESTful API as a video source for ventures in industries as diverse as transportation, logistics, and more.

About the Speaker

Dean Drako has 25-plus years of experience building profitable, high-growth, high-recurring revenue technology companies. He is Founder and CEO of cloud video surveillance and AI analytics provider, Eagle Eye Networks; Chairman of Brivo, a cloud access control company, and Founder and CEO of Drako Motors. Previously, Drako was founder, president, and CEO of Barracuda Networks, where he created the IT security industry’s first spam filter appliance and then grew the company to more than 140 products and 150,000 customers from its inception in 2003 through 2012. Drako has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at University of Michigan, and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley.
